I was born November 9, 1969 in the small town of Sachica, Colombia. I am the third of five children of Antonio Cabra and Amelia Amado. We lived one block away from church and I served as an altar server during elementary School years. My parents and my grandmother on my mother’s side helped instill in me the importance faith and Church. During high school, a new priest arrived to our town, and became a wonderful role model for me. I decided to enter Seminary after completing my high school education. After six years in Seminary (at age 24), the Bishop of El Paso, TX invited me to the U.S. to continue my training. While in Texas, I became aware of the need for Hispanic priests in North Carolina. I was invited by Bishop Gossman to relocate to N.C. On June 27, 1998 I was ordained at St. Michael in Cary by Bishop Gossman, with added honor of being the first Hispanic priest to be ordained in the Diocese of Raleigh.
Following ordination, I spent 2 years at St. Eugene in Wendell, NC as associate Pastor, then one year at St. Mark’s in Wilmington, NC, also as associate Pastor.
In 2001, I moved to Mother of Mercy parish in Washington, NC, where I served as Pastor for the next 12 years. Holy Spirit Catholic Church was my next Pastoral assignment where I served 9 years.
In April this year Bishop Zarama asked me to serve as the new Pastor St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and I accepted his invitation with faith and joy. I look forward to sharing the journey of faith with all the families of this wonderful parish.
